Reasons Why Your Nissan Qashqai Key Fob Won't Work

The Qashqai has a distinctly SUV-like appearance due to its larger dimensions, and the wheel sizes of 19 inches in Ti and ST-L models can be a bit firm at times. The front tyres on the Qashqai may also lose traction on rough surfaces, and its CVT can sometimes display wrist-flexing torque steering.

This is usually caused by a dead battery, which can be replaced in a matter of minutes. Be sure that the replacement battery is of the same size, voltage and specifications.

Water Damage

Water damage is among the most common causes for the Nissan keyfob to display the "key ID wrong" message. The key fob is fitted with rubber seals which protect the chip inside, but prolonged exposure to moisture can cause it not to function properly. It is common to observe this when your key fob was dropped in the water or in a swimming pool. It can also occur when it's wet due to rain or soapy hand.

If your key fob has been exposed to water for a lengthy period of time, it could need to be cleaned with isopropyl ethanol or electronic cleaner. It may also need to be sent to a professional to repair or replace it.

If your key fob require replacement the process is easy. Make sure you have the right multipack (CR2032, 3V). The front and rear cases with the flat-head screwdriver. Remove the metal clips, take out the battery that was in place and replace it. Reassemble the fob and replace the mechanical key. Check to see if it functions properly. If it does not then you'll have to take it to a Nissan dealer or professional auto locksmith for replacement of the key chip. The chip isn't usually damaged by water and isn't too costly.

Dead Coin Battery

Another common reason the reason your Nissan Qashqai key fob might not function is because the coin battery has gone dead. These batteries last for 3-5 years, but they can become faulty over time if the fob has been dropped often. You can replace the battery with a fresh one but be sure it's the same size and voltage as the original. If you use a new battery, it may cause the key to be assigned a wrong key ID.  G28CarKeys  will stop it from being linked to your vehicle.

The best way to change the battery on the Nissan Qashqai Key Fob is to pry it open using a small flat-head screwdriver. The screwdriver should be inserted into a small hole on the bottom of the key fob. Gently twist the screwdriver to divide the two halves. Remove the old CR2025 battery and replace it with a new one, noting the position of the previous one inside the fob.

Before you put the new battery in be sure that there isn't any dirt or water damage on the terminals. If so, clean the terminals using some isopropyl ethanol. You'll also need to make sure the pole cables are connected correctly - they should be connected to the negative and positive poles of the battery.

Fault Diagnosis

If your Nissan Qashqai's primary fob doesn't function after exposure to clean tap or rain water it could be a sign there is an issue with the internal chip. You'll need a new keyfob if you are unable to fix the issue by changing the battery. If the key fob has stopped working after dropping it, it's likely that the chip inside was damaged. It is possible to get the key fob to function once more if you remove and clean the chip with alcohol and paper towels, then put it back in.

One common error you may notice on the dashboard of your car is "Key ID Not Correct." This means that the vehicle is unable to recognize the key fob and will not allow it to start the engine. This problem could be caused in many different ways, including water damage, issues that are undetectable in the circuitry of the key fob or RFID interference.

The key fob will stop working in the event that the 12 volt batteries are dead or fail to provide enough electric current. This will affect the remote keyless system as well as central locking of your Nissan Qashqai, as well as hindering you from starting the engine with the key fob (if equipped with Intelligent Key). If you're unable to lock or unlock the door manually, you should check the batteries on your key fob to make sure they are in good condition. You could also try re-inserting the battery to reset the transmitter.

Reprogramming

If the key fob was not submerged into saltwater, it should be able be revived by a simple wash of clean water. You could also try cleaning the electronic chip using isopropyl alcohol or an electronic cleaner. If none of these works then it might be time to replace the entire key fob with a new one.

If your Nissan Intelligent Key is still not working, it could be an issue with the connection between it and your car. Start by pressing the ignition key, but without starting the vehicle. Continue doing this until the hazard light flashes two times. Turn the vehicle off and take the keys out.

Then, open the fob compartment of your vehicle. It's usually located in a door jamb on the driver's side door handle or underneath an armrest. Find the small "program" button and press it. When the process is complete, you should hear the sound of a chime.

Now that your Intelligent Key is relinked to the car It's time to test it out. You must stand a certain distance away from the car, and hit all the buttons on it. If the lights flash and the horn sound this means that the key has been successfully linked to the Nissan. You can also test the key in close proximity.
